    Linux compatibility is mixed.

The firmware / hardware is somewhat mixed:
On my Linux/Ryzen system, the adapter only works on the chipset's USB3.1 port, not the processor's USB3.0 port. Also, YU12 color mode seems to be buggy, only in YUYV mode I get a
working picture. Unfortunately hangouts/meet uses the former, so the adapter is not usable for video chat in Google hangouts/meet. If you can live with these limitations it works very well on Linux, especially the latency seems nice and low.

    Pro

    • Low latency

    Contra

    • Seems to only run reliably with USB3.1
    • Certain video modes do not work properly

Doesn't work with USB 2.0, not even in 1080p. Way worse than no-name device but 5x more expensive.

Doesn't work with USB 2.0, not even in 1080p. Got me a cheap no name HDMI capture stick - works just fine and even has more options in OBS. First and last Elgato product for me.

    Pro

    • Captures 4k

    Contra

    • Doesn't work with USB 2.0 at all.
    • Less OBS options than no-name device.
    • 5 times as expensive than no-name device.
    • No-name stick has a metal case, Elgato stick is made of plastic.
    • Laughable performance. Lags even more than Canon's webcam utility.
    • Way more lag than 10 years old Avermedia Live Gamer Portable HDMI capture device.

Many issues with freezing; firmware issues

It's a good idea executed poorly. If you buy it, expect to spend a lot of time trying to find a working configuration - and once you find it, forget changing motherboards/laptops/USB hub or it will stop working again!

    Trust
me, buy a cheaper alternative and save both money and headaches.

    Examples of non-working configurations:
    - LG 27uk850-w monitor USB hub
    - LG 27ul850-w monitor USB hub
    - MacBook Air M1 USB port
    - Satechi ST-SCMA2M USB-C mini dock (with or without external power)
    - Roline USB 3.2 Gen 1 Switch
    - Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX almost all USB ports

    Examples of working configurations:
    - Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX a single random USB port

    Pro

    • 4k60 capture, when it works

    Contra

    • Power requirements beyond most USB ports & hubs
    • Constant freezing issues on many motherboards & USB hubs (search the web)
    • Firmware advertizes modes that it doesn't properly support
    • Due to the above, does not work properly on linux without annoying hacks

No delay if you set the camera output correctly

Didn't have any problems with the delay, you just have to make sure that the wide angle is turned off on the GoPro! I also needed an HDMI to HDMI mini cable, unfortunately.

    Pro

    • Fantastic, a rescue during Corona
    • Works very well with GoPro (and OBS, Zoom, etc.)
    • With USB extension cable
    • Installs its drivers itself

    Contra

    • Expensive!
    • Long delivery time
