I don't know how Nikon does it, but with Sony the focal length is the correct optical focal length. The optical ratio is independent of the sensor size. However, the angle of view depends on the sensor size - the smaller the sensor, the narrower the angle of view. You can think of it like an image section (often called electronic zoom in digital cameras, which then simply uses a smaller part of the sensor and thus becomes more pixelated). I assume you are referring to the comparable focal length for a classic 35mm film camera (35mm camera). Since the 6400 has an APS sensor, which is smaller than 24x36mm, 35mm on an APS sensor corresponds roughly to 35*1.5= 52.5mm, i.e. roughly a normal lens. The lens mentioned is specially made for the APS sensor (so it fits on your camera). It can also be used on a Sony full-frame camera (A7/A9...), but would then only utilise part of the sensor. In case I have described this too complicated, there are some good Youtube videos that explain this quite clearly.

Yes it fits. I use the a6300 with this lens. The crucial thing is that the lens bayonet fits (which is given: E-mount). I am very satisfied with the lens. Just as an aside: in addition to the lens bayonet, the sensor size is another factor you should keep in mind. In this case it fits: the Sony Alpha a6000, as well as this lens, are designed for APS-C sensors. So everything is OK. But there are also full-frame cameras / lenses (e.g. the Sony Alpha 7; and Sony FE lenses). Here, however, it is possible to combine a full-frame lens with an APS-C camera, or even vice versa. There are various advantages and disadvantages, but then it goes into a bit of detail. In short: it's often not ideal, but still possible.
