Hello, is it possible to carry a larger lens (500mm, total weight with camera approx. 4.5 kg) over the shoulder with this tripod without a tripod head, i.e. screwed directly onto the tripod clamp? Or is that too risky? Thank you very much!

I would not risk it. Without a head, you could damage to case of the camera with the monopod fixing screw acting under the effect of leverage. If you use any adequate tripod head, doesn't have be costly, it will act as a break between the lever action from the extended monopod and the final screw fixing of the head into the camera case. If you sketch this out in a diagram you should be able to see what I mean. A tripod head is a lot cheaper to replace than your lens of camera, hope that helps. Oh and the monopod is excellent, but I only carry it on my belt and fit only when needed as I use it mainly for landscape and architecture. Hope this helps.
