Product details

The Planet FT-1205A is a redundant media converter with 3 ports that supports the conversion between 10/100Base-TX and 100Base-FX networks. Unlike single-port media converters, this redundant media converter is designed for critical networks that require automatic recovery of fiber or copper connections in less than 10 ms, making it ideal for ISPs, telecommunications companies, hospitals, banks, and enterprises.

With integrated DIP switches, the converter can be configured as a 3-port Ethernet switch or as a 2-port redundant media converter. In 3-port switch mode, it operates with a store-and-forward mechanism for high performance and prevents packet loss through IEEE 802.3x flow control (full duplex) and backpressure (half duplex).

In 2-port redundant mode, it provides redundancy of less than 10 ms for highly critical Ethernet applications and supports an auto-recovery function. If the target port of a packet is unavailable, it forwards the packet to the other port of the backup pair.

The SFP slot supports single-mode, multi-mode, and WDM transceiver modules in a compact form factor for various applications. The FT-1205A offers high reliability and flexibility, extending the distance up to 2 km, 20 km, or more depending on the 100Base-FX SFP transceiver modules. The Ethernet signal allows for an easy, efficient, and cost-effective connection of two types of segments.

The converters can be used as a standalone unit or as a plug-in module for the Planet media converter chassis MC-700, MC-1500, MC-1500R, and MC-1500R48. Additionally, other Planet media converters (FT series) in the MC chassis are hot-swappable.
