An illuminated metropolis in Illumina City is an urban development plan underway. The goal of this plan is to transform the city into a place that Pokémon and people can truly share together. Shortly after your arrival, you choose one of these partner Pokémon to accompany you on your journey: Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile. Together with your partner Pokémon, you can explore the streets of this vast city or visit wild sectors – habitats where you will encounter wild Pokémon. If you wish to catch one, you must aim precisely and then throw a Poké Ball at it or capture it with the help of the Pokémon on your team. For the very first time, trainers and their Pokémon move together and act in real time during a battle. Pokémon execute their attacks as soon as their trainers command them. In addition to type differences, there will be new battle conditions to consider. For example, the timing when switching your Pokémon or the varying duration before an attack is initiated, as well as the size of an attack's area of effect. Mega Evolution is back. In Illumina City, Pokémon with a Mega Evolution can go beyond an ordinary evolution. When a trainer's key stone reacts with one of their Pokémon's Mega Stone, the Pokémon will not simply change its form and size – it will unleash unforeseen powers that can turn the tide of battle.
