Christoph Schmidt had no idea about the suicides of his great-grandparents and the incredible survival drama of his grandparents during the Nazi era in Berlin until his father's death. An almost accidental discovery led him to uncover these events and confronted him with the Jewish history of his father's family. In this personal account, the author, who has lived and worked as a German in Jerusalem since his studies, narrates his adventurous journey to the castle villa of his famous ancestors, a long-established German-Jewish family in Berlin, while reflecting on what this discovery might mean for his own life, his identity as a German, and for his children in Israel.
