Little Caucasian Divan
Adolf Endler, GermanProduct details
A very personal travel report about Georgia, which provides insights into the people, history, and poetry of this country. It includes a collection of Georgian poems from eight centuries, translated by Adolf Endler. "Two Attempts to Tell About Georgia" is a poetic travelogue by Adolf Endler, first published in 1976. Together with fellow writer Rainer Kirsch, Endler was invited to Georgia for several months to learn about the country's poetry and its living representatives, and to translate it into German. There were initiated official meetings, but the longer the two German poets stayed on site, the more accurately and deeply they came to understand the real conditions and learned from Georgian colleagues in private settings who were deemed "undesirable" by the powerful. The result is an extensive anthology.
