Product details
In 1905 Anton Kippenberg took over the management of Insel Verlag. He immediately began to expand the programme, relying as advisor on Rainer Maria Rilke, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Stefan Zweig. Zweig, who saw himself as a cosmopolitan literary figure, became his most zealous advisor: it was his urge that led to the founding of Insel Bücherei in 1912. He constantly and frequently made suggestions to Kippenberg for translations; he wanted to democratize the autocratic island by means of books of world literature. This attempt to enlighten the readership finally failed in the first years of the "Third Reich" - Zweig left the Insel Verlag. The 800 letters from the correspondence between Anton Kippenberg and Stefan Zweig, published here for the first time, are a literary and literary historical sensation. For the first time lassen.
