The EX-47901 RS-232 to RS-485 converter can be used with any PC, workstation, or server that has an RS-232 interface. It features a 9-pin socket that you can connect directly to your serial RS-232 interface. The EX-47901 converts unbalanced, full-duplex RS-232 signals into balanced half-duplex RS-485 signals. The RS-232 connection is configured as a DCE port and has a DB9 socket that supports pin 2 (TXD input), pin 3 (RXD output), and pin 5 (Signal Ground). The following pins are bridged: pin 7 (RTS) with pin 8 (CTS) and pin 6 (DSR) with pin 1 (CD) as well as pin 4 (DTR).

Terminator: 4.5 KΩ
Operating voltage is derived from the RS-232 signal; external power supply is possible but generally not required.
