Sixty years ago, numerous workers came to the Federal Republic of Germany due to the recruitment agreement with Italy, each with their own story. Among them is Antonio: He lives both here and there, here with his German partner Anna and there with his Italian wife Caterina - of whom the former is aware, but the latter is not. In the book, we learn how both women experience their relationship with Antonio and how they report on it in their native language. This uniqueness of the original, which is designed to be bilingual, presents an interesting challenge for the series "Düsseldorf Translated": Those who start reading the book from this side will first learn in German with Italian translation how Anna views her life with Antonio. Conversely, those who begin from the other direction will first look at the events together with Caterina - in Italian with German translation. The two versions of the story already represent a cultural transfer and, in the broadest sense, a translation in their own right. The series "Düsseldorf Translated" makes the translation process transparent by revealing the relationship between translation and source text. Literature is presented here bilingually, as an engaging and complex linguistic experience.
