Product details
Joachim Nettelbeck, who was born in Kolberg in 1738 and also died there in 1824, was a German sailor and folk hero. Already at the age of eleven he went to sea with his uncle on a slave ship, travelling the coasts of West Africa, Western Europe and West India. After his school education he completed a seaman's training and from then on sailed the waters of the world, first under Prussian, later under Gdansk flag. During his lifetime and even beyond, Joachim Nettelbeck was considered a pioneer, both of the young seafaring community and because of his commitment to the rights of citizens in the discussion about Prussian reforms. In this book, Nettelbeck himself describes his life's journey and also gives a comprehensive insight into the general conditions in the 18th and early 19th century.
