If you can't place a floor-standing speaker in your living space or prefer to enjoy music through a powerful bookshelf speaker positioned on a sideboard or speaker stand, then the DALI Oberon 3 with its approximately A4-sized front baffle could be the right choice. This model delivers sound quality that rivals that of a slim floor-standing speaker, thanks to its 180 mm (7") mid-bass driver with a wood fiber membrane and SMC magnetic system, along with a 29 mm Oberon dome tweeter. This is made possible by the relatively large diaphragm area of the two drivers used in the Oberon 3 and their particularly wide dispersion characteristics. While comparably sized bookshelf speakers typically feature 165 mm woofers and a 19 or 20 mm tweeter, the Oberon 3 utilizes a 180 mm mid-bass driver and a 29 mm tweeter. Thanks to the approximately 15% larger diaphragm area, the drivers can generate a certain sound pressure with significantly less excursion.
