Charlotte Perriand
Jacques Barsac, EnglishProduct details
The fourth and final volume of the most comprehensive monograph on the outstanding French designer Charlotte Perriand covers the years 1968 to 1999. It focuses on her extensive work in the new winter sports resorts of Les Arcs in the Savoy Alps. Perriand, a pioneer of bioclimatic architecture, was not only responsible for the urban and architectural design of the two settlements Arc 1600 and Arc 1800, but also created the interior designs and furnishings for over 4,500 apartments, down to the coffee spoon. This project, remarkable both in scope and depth of treatment, represents the culmination of Perriand's years of research on alpine living in harmony with nature. Additionally, her final projects, mostly apartments and art spaces, between Paris and Tokyo are presented, through which she once again explored the boundaries of a specific and cultivated art of living. The book concludes with several detailed tributes to the more than seven decades of Charlotte Perriand's creative span, in which the visionary power of this extraordinary woman manifests in myriad ways.
