The competition for speed is fierce both off and on the pitch.
With the EOS R1 camera, you can capture even the most fleeting moments at 40 frames per second and freeze the action at 1/64,000 of a second, while the Action Priority focus mode recognises and anticipates the most important moments of the sport.
The back-illuminated stacked sensor offers incredible sensitivity and almost completely eliminates distortion caused by rolling shutter, while the pre-recording function allows you to capture moments before the shutter button is pressed.
Record stunning 6K videos at a frame rate of up to 60p and a variety of different formats.
The dual recording mode enables simultaneous recording of Full HD videos and 17 megapixel photos (16:9) for the same event.
Deep learning technology and cross-type AF identify and track the subject with exceptional precision.
The new generation Eye Control function allows you to select AF areas by simply aiming at the subject, while the DIGIC Accelerator processor supports Action Priority mode to automatically determine the main subject in football, volleyball and basketball and move the AF areas accordingly.
Capture even the most fleeting moments with a customisable continuous shooting speed of up to 40 frames per second.
An innovative stacked sensor enables a shutter speed of 1/64,000 of a second, with virtually no rolling shutter distortion.

Source: Digitec GalaxusThe new Canon EOS R1 only just missed out on the top spot in our list of the best cameras. It is only beaten by the Sony Alpha 1 Il, which came onto the market at almost the same time. The features and handling of the EOS R1 are unrivalled. The comparatively low resolution of 24 megapixels meets the requirements of professional sports photography, where maximum speed is essential.
Canon's new professional flagship impresses across the board when tested. The EOS R1 should be the first choice, especially for photographers who spend a lot of time travelling in the high-ISO range. However, the full-frame competition also has strong cameras on sale. Nikon's top models are significantly cheaper and Sony has an even faster camera in its portfolio with the Alpha 9 Ill, as well as the...
On paper and in the first practical test of a pre-production model, the EOS R1 made an excellent impression. The EOS could become the new benchmark for sports cameras, especially in terms of speed and autofocus. At the time of going to press at the end of October 2024, we were not yet able to carry out a lab test, as the series models were not due to be available until mid-November...
