Product description

Mercedes-Benz W25, #4 Monaco, Luigi Fagioli, 1935

After re-entering the Grand Prix racing scene in 1934, Mercedes was immediately able to look back on a very successful season. In order to be prepared for the 1935 racing year, technical improvements were made to the car and the engine output was increased to 430 hp.

The new racing season kicked off with the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo on April 22, 1935. Mercedes had entered three cars with the drivers Caracciola, von Brauchitsch and the Italian Luigi Fagioli. Well-known drivers such as Nuvolari, von Dreyfus and Chiron (all on Alfa Romeo) were in competition as serious opponents. Maserati and Bugatti were also expecting good results. Auto Union did not even enter the race.

After the start, Fagioli immediately took the lead with start number 4. In the following race, Luigi Fagioli clearly dominated and was able to finish the race as the undisputed winner with a half-lap lead.

Mercedes-Benz thus had a perfect start to the Grand Prix. This promising winning streak was to continue in the course of the season. In the end, 9 victories were achieved in a total of 11 races and Rudolf Caracciola, who won 6 Grand Prix, was the European champion in 1935.
