Which torch do I need?

We have more than 500 torches on offer. With such a large range, it’s hard to keep an overview of the different types and purposes. We’re here to help.
Do I need a red light torch? Does my torch need to be dimmable? What about waterproof? If you’re looking for a new torch, these are the kinds of questions you need to ask yourself. To help you make a choice, it’s good to start off with the purpose you’re looking for. I’ve come up with a list of things torches are used for and a guide on which types and models are your best pick for each purpose.
Everyday life
A torch that’s used for everyday life doesn’t need to have crazy functions. When you’re looking for something in the cellar or trying to find the right switch on the fuse box, you don’t even need extremely bright light. What you do need is a reliable torch. The good news is: These kinds of torches are very affordable.
DIY
A torch that’s used for your building and crafting work needs to be robust; it shouldn’t break if it falls off a ladder or gets hit. It’s also important that it fits into your hand well and doesn’t slip. Size also matters: You want your torch to be easy to carry around and store in your tool box, so make sure that it’s compact and lightweight.
Safety / self-defence
There are torches with special features for tactical use. A stroboscope, for instance, can be used for self-defence. If you’re looking for tactical functions, also consider output and beam distance, as a bright light can help you illuminate a wide space or blind an offender. But be careful with these torches; high light intensity can severely damage the eyes if they’re exposed to it for too long. A torch with a long handle is also suitable, as you can use it as a baton in the case of an emergency.
Hunting
Torches with a range of colour modes are especially useful for hunting. Some torches can produce red, green or blue light. Red light is rather weak and will make sure you’re hard to see at night and your eyes can adjust to the dark better. Green light can’t be detected by game, making it easier for you to get up closely. Blue light makes sweat and blood marks more visible, leading your way to your prey. If you’re looking for a hunting torch, also make sure it’s dimmable, a you don’t want to wake up all animals in the forest with your beam of light.
Children
Children should have a torch with a low lumen level. The lower number of lumen a torch has, the weaker its light is, making it impossible to damage their eyes if children play with it. We have children’s torches in a range of colours and shapes. How about a «Minions» or a «Paul the Bear» torch?
Outdoor
Outdoor torches are suitable for many purposes. It’s handy to have a dimmable light; you might need a bright light if you’re on a hike, but a weak light once you’re back in the tent reading a book. If your torch has a focus function, even better. This allows you to adjust the diameter of the light beam and decide if you want to illuminate an entire area or just a small, precise space. Many torches also have an emergency function, which helps you alert others or send morse signals. This is especially useful if you need help and are trying to attract attention.
Diving
The deeper you dive, the darker it gets. Diving torches help you see more under water, even in bad conditions. The most important feature of these torches is that they’re waterproof; not only in shallow water, but up to great depths. Go with a bright or reflective torch, as this will make it easier to see it and have it handy. Don’t forget to attach your torch with a loop or hook, so you won’t loose it in the depths of the ocean.
