Medela from Switzerland presents the "Magic InBra", a new portable breast pump that can be used directly in the bra and is said to offer hospital quality. We now have the product in our shop.

The electric breast pump «Magic InBra», available as a single or double version, is designed for use directly in the bra. Breastfeeding mothers can pump milk discreetly, but remain flexible in everyday life and can move freely around the house or flat while pumping. The device is available as a single or double version.

Newly developed pumping technology

The centrepiece of the pump is the so-called «FluidFeel Technology». According to Medela, this is based on the realisation that heat around the nipple has a positive effect on milk production. While the pump creates a gentle vacuum on the breast, the nipple is surrounded by warm milk. The environment created in this way is intended to approximate natural breastfeeding.

A short video explains how this works:

As soon as milk flow is detected, the «Magic InBra» automatically switches from the stimulation phase to the expression phase.

The device uses a similar pumping pattern to the Symphony breast pump from the same manufacturer. If you use the double breast pump, the milk volume is said to increase by 18 per cent. According to Medela, this also increases the energy content of the milk compared to alternate pumping.

The technology behind the InBra

For a comfortable fit, the manufacturer has focussed on a flat, anatomical design and a light weight. The pump weighs just 200 grams and, according to the manufacturer, has an operating noise of 38 decibels. The energy for the motor comes from the rechargeable battery, which according to the manufacturer should provide up to two hours of pumping power. A charge indicator provides information about the battery status.

The pump employs a constant negative pressure and can be regulated in ten stages down to -300 mmHg. The oval chest tubes also offer a special feature: they have an opening angle of 105 degrees. According to Medela, this should also increase the milk supply compared to the usual 90 degrees.

The breast pump comes with breast shield sizes 21 and 24 millimetres, while sizes 18 and 27 millimetres are available separately. The collection containers have a capacity of 150 millilitres.

Everyday features

The housing of the breast pump is transparent to allow a view of the milk flow and the correct positioning of the nipple. The special night mode provides indirect lighting to optimise nipple alignment even in the dark.

All components that come into direct contact with breast milk are dishwasher-safe.

You can either control the pump directly on the device or use the associated app for your smartphone.
