Tested by web3er: The Capitol from Lego

Every month we give away a Lego novelty. In September, Lukas alias web3er won the Capitol from Lego Architecture. This is his test report.

Over 1000 pieces for the Capitol! Can I do it before the presidential election is over? With these words, I won the Lego competition and received the US Capitol from Lego Architecture as a gift.

And yes, I did it. Together with my four-year-old son, it took us just three hours to assemble the 1031 Lego blocks into an architectural masterpiece.

My previous winner, who had won the Claas Xerion 5000 tractor from Lego Technic, sorted all the individual parts according to their colours. At the Capitol, the Lego bricks are organised by building section in plastic bags. I therefore decided to empty each individual plastic bag into a container. This turned out to be a good choice, as I was able to build sorting box after sorting box.

On the first evening of my career as a site manager, I put the base plate together. As it's a bit bigger than a PC keyboard, I thought it wouldn't take too long to build. :)

The next morning, when my daughter was at nursery, I set to work with my son to build the foundations of the capitol. The tricky thing is that many of the parts look similar. As the two wings of the building are mirror images of each other, you have to make sure that the individual parts are aligned symmetrically.

After "pouring" the foundations, we erected the walls. Did you know that element construction already existed in the 18th century when the original Capitol was built? Neither did I. So without further ado, we decided to use the lorry and excavator from the Lego City set to erect the element walls.

After the column elements were positioned and the turf was laid, the shell of the Capitol looked pretty much finished. These massive columns are really impressive!

The roof and the domes had to be constructed in duplicate for the identical wings of the building. However, at the start of construction, it is important not to forget to lay the tiles in the rotunda under the dome, as the statues will be placed on top later.

All in all, we really enjoyed building the Capitol. It will take pride of place in our home.

Thank you very much for this great Lego set!
