Silent Night on bike bells

I love cycling. Besides my passion for bikes, I’m a bearable musician. These two interests – and a bit of mulled wine – inspired me.

Despite the fact that they haven’t been compulsory in Switzerland since February 2017, our range includes over 300 different bicycle bells. They seem to be something people want.

With Christmas just around the corner, I had the idea of doing something festive with bike bells. I decided to challenge myself to play a Christmas carol on bicycle bells. As a quick search on YouTube revealed, I’m the first person in the world to master this challenge. This means I’m either madly brilliant – or simply a madman.

In any case, I ordered a bunch of bike bells on Galaxus and arranged them from lowest to highest. These are the ones I went for:

Yes, I invented a new musical instrument. I call it the bikebellophone. Sure, it’s a simple set-up: a broomstick with twelve bells attached to it. The clever part is that they’re arranged by tone pitch. Check out the video to see how they sound. My favourites turned out to be the ring-shaped bells by knog. They’re not as loud as others, but they sound beautiful and look elegant.

Silent night, slightly off-tune night. I didn’t master the entire song, but I hope it put you into a festive mood. Anyway, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I'm the master tamer at the flea circus that is the editorial team, a nine-to-five writer and 24/7 dad. Technology, computers and hi-fi make me tick. On top of that, I’m a rain-or-shine cyclist and generally in a good mood.
