Sex toys and the like: twice as popular during the pandemic

Bored during lockdown? Definitely not in Swiss bedrooms! In the wake of the pandemic, the sale of erotic products here at Galaxus nearly doubled. Find out which toys are particularly popular here.

Hygiene masks, social distancing and home offices – Corona has turned our work-life balance on its head. But does the same apply to the sex life of our customers?

The Five Magics – from condoms to anal toys

Nothing seems out of ordinary. That's what you might think when taking a quick glance at the sales figures in Galaxus' erotic range. The five best-sellers have remained the same, both before and during the pandemic: condoms, lubricants, vibrators, masturbators and anal toys are the most popular. Vibrator sales have increased by 158% during the pandemic – your classically male counterpart, a masturbator, shot up by 77%.

However, if you compare the sales figures from the year of Covid (April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021) with the previous one (April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020), you'll notice a difference: Swiss customers bought almost twice as many erotic articles during the pandemic (+ 98%). New to the top ten most popular items list we have bondage accessories and massage oil. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be: a quick massage, followed by rope play. Or maybe the other way around, who knows. That's all for you to try out.

The penis sheath: a slightly different form of lockdown

The most improved item in Galaxus' erotic assortment is – drum roll, please – the penis sheath. Its sales skyrocketed by 488 per cent. Here's what one of them looks like – for the innocent among us.

And if you're up for something a bit more intense, try the penis cage, if you're looking to completely lock down those private areas. Luckily in this case, you won't need an OK from Alain Berset to reopen. Thank goodness…

Our beautiful array of adult underwear has also been quite popular during Corona: lingerie (+ 267%) and suspenders (+ 202%) are riding high. Not while in use, we hope. And of course, classic sex toys remain popular as ever: vibrator sales have climbed by 158% during the pandemic – masturbators aren't looking too shabby either at 77%.

What's your opinion on sex toys? Do you have a favourite product? Or do you think they're totally superfluous? Thanks for letting us know in the comments!

Studies claim that we have a shorter attention span than goldfish. Ouch! My job is to get your attention as often and for as long as possible. How? With content you enjoy. Outside of the office, you’ll find me on the tennis court, curled up with a book, Netflixing or travelling.
