Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8K tested: High-precision gaming controller at a premium price
The new premium PC controller from Razer is light, fast, precise and expensive. The investment in the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K is only worthwhile for a few.
With the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K, Razer is launching its first wireless gaming controller with a sampling rate of 8000 hertz (Hz). The device performs superbly, but is only worth its proud price to a limited extent.

Lightweight part
The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K comes in a robust transport case and contains everything I need for operation:
- The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K controller
- a USB-A dongle
- one braided USB-A to C cable
- two interchangeable thumbsticks (one raised and one curved stick)
At just 220 grammes, it is significantly lighter than a Playstation (280 grammes) or Xbox controller (248 grammes). The grips are covered in rubber and fit perfectly in the hand. Compared to the Xbox controller, the grips are slightly shorter and are more similar in shape to the Playstation controller, but with their own touch. The controller fits comfortably in the hand and still feels good even after long gaming sessions.
The build quality is excellent. Nothing wobbles or rattles.

Excellent buttons and sticks
The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K relies on mechanical keys with PBT caps, as known from keyboards. The XYAB keys offer a precise, tactile and audible pressure point with pleasant feedback. It feels so good to press them that I keep catching myself clicking on the controller while I'm working, completely without meaning to.

The D-pad responds reliably and can be switched between 4-way and 8-way mode. The interchangeable thumbsticks are based on TMR technology (Tunnel Magneto Resistance). Like Hall-Effect, TMR uses magnets to capture position data, making them more precise and durable than conventional sticks. In contrast to the former, they are said to be even more precise.

The shoulder buttons (L1/R1) also offer tactile feedback, while the triggers (L2/R2) can be limited in length by a trigger stop - ideal for quick reactions in shooters. Like the main buttons, they feel excellent.
The four programmable paddles on the back are perfectly placed so that I don't press them accidentally, but can reach them quickly during gameplay.

Precise, but for whom?
The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K delivers outstanding performance in practice. The high sampling rate ensures minimal latency. The mechanical keys in turn enable precise inputs and the option to shorten the triggers gives you an advantage in fast games.
The key question, however, is: who is this controller for? PC gamers who play competitive shooters usually use a mouse and keyboard. For story games, on the other hand, most of the controller's premium features are not crucial.

The target group therefore seems quite small: PC gamers who play with controllers out of habit or preference, but don't want to do without maximum precision.
No haptic feedback and no jack connection
One major difference to many other premium controllers: The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K completely dispenses with haptic feedback. The lack of vibrations makes it lighter, which is an advantage in competitive games. But in single-player titles, this results in a noticeable loss of immersion.
In addition, there is no 3.5 mm jack socket for headsets, which should not be the case with a premium controller in this price range.
Extensive customisation options
The Razer Synapse software offers various configuration options:
- Setting the sampling rate (1000 to 8000 Hz)
- Configuration of all buttons and paddles
- Adjustment of the stick sensitivity
- Calibration of the thumbsticks
A particularly practical feature: many functions such as volume control or profile switching can be controlled directly on the controller using key combinations. This makes the controller highly customisable. The Razer Synapse software, on the other hand, takes some getting used to and, in my experience, does not run flawlessly on every system.

Good battery life
Razer has installed a 900 mAh battery in the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K and promises up to 36 hours of battery life. This is achieved when using the controller with a 1000 Hz sampling rate. At 8000 Hz, it is around 20 hours.
In a nutshell
Premium controller for a niche market
The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8K is a technically impressive controller that delivers top performance in terms of precision, customisability and ergonomics. The mechanical buttons, high sampling rate and low weight make it perfect for competitive gaming.
With its price, it is clearly aimed at enthusiastic gamers who are prepared to pay for premium functions. The lack of haptic feedback and a headphone socket are (too) big limitations in view of the price.
The controller is particularly recommended for PC gamers who deliberately play with a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, but want maximum precision and customisability. Those who are less competitive or mainly play story games can also opt for cheaper alternatives.
