Dog hair everywhere? Lizzy Rönz uses the Neakasa P2 Pro to get to grips with her dog Polly's fur. The test shows how well the grooming set consisting of a brush, vacuum cleaner and clipper works.

Lizzy Rönz should actually brush her Cavalier King Charles spaniel dog every day. Eight-year-old Polly has short hair and is easy to groom. Nevertheless, her owner, a digital media designer at Galaxus, struggles daily with white and brown hair that gets everywhere. That's why the Neakasa pet grooming kit is a perfect test device. «I've always wanted to try out a brush and vacuum cleaner combo like this», says Lizzy - and transforms her living room into a dog grooming parlour.

A box of accessories like a full bowl

Dog friend Maya is there to provide emotional support. Together with Polly, she sniffs curiously at all the items as they are unpacked. And there are quite a few accessories to sniff at in the box: In addition to the hoover and hose, there are several brushes and nozzles, plus an electric clipper with various attachments - everything you could possibly need to groom a dog's coat. The holder for the accessories is practical, so everything is neatly stowed away.

The pet grooming kit is self-explanatory. The only thing that is not entirely clear at first is whether the sponge filter should remain in the vacuum cleaner or not. The instructions make it clear: it serves to protect the motor and is washable.

A brush for fur giants

The first thing Lizzy Rönz does is attach the grooming brush. It looks like the dog brush that Polly is familiar with and is a good place to start. The vacuum cleaner is available at «Eco» and «Standard» and is not so loud that it irritates the dogs. Polly likes to be blow-dried, so is generally not afraid of such noises and appliances.

According to the instructions «, the grooming brush is supposed to pick up loose hair, clean residue and at the same time lengthen the hair, making it fluffier». This worked well: simply brush through and then pull the grey lever to suck the hair into the brush. Sometimes Lizzy has to help a little with her hand so that the vacuum pulls everything out of the bristles.

However, the brush is a little too big for small dogs like Polly. You always have to go over the coat in the same direction; as soon as the dog turns, readjusting with the large brush and hose is awkward.

Four paws for dehairing

A positive surprise is the depilatory tool. It's more comb than brush. To avoid irritating the animal's skin, you need to be a little more careful when using it. Polly much prefers this attachment to the brush. She is completely relaxed and can be brushed everywhere - on her body, ears and even on her sensitive feet. These are very ticklish and Polly pulls them back if you just want to touch them.

Lizzy has to be careful when combing her hair so that it doesn't pull. She always has to hold her ears firmly, for example. But if she uses the comb carefully and purposefully, she can get a lot of hair out - much more than with the grooming brush. «I think the comb is great, just right for Polly», says the tester. And: "The size of the brush is also suitable for smaller dogs. Only time will tell whether the device lives up to its promise of 95 per cent less hair and matting. The dog owner is quite confident.

The instructions for the cleaning brush are somewhat ambiguous. You shouldn't use it to vacuum the animal, but rather furniture or clothing. Lizzy sucks Polly's fine, white hairs off the sofa. This works really well. However, you have to carry the vacuum cleaner around with you. It also always needs a cable connection to the socket.

The spaniel almost becomes a short-haired dachshund

Lizzy is breaking new ground with the electric clippers. So far, she has only occasionally trimmed the fur on Polly's paw. As the coat of the Cavalier King Charles spaniel is so typical, it is of course not clipped for the test. The four paws have to be enough.

This is a good decision, as clipping takes more practice than brushing and combing. Lizzy felt she had shaved off too much when she first cut Polly's fringed feet, even though she had set the smaller cut.

By the way: clipping is more targeted and relaxed when lying down - so Polly lies down and Lizzy kneels next to her. The remaining three paws now have to be adjusted to the length of the first. Everything is a bit shorter than planned, but Lizzy thinks it still looks okay. «But I definitely need to practise before it becomes a proper hairstyle.»

Polly did really well for 45 minutes - not just a treat as a reward. The dog owner is delighted with a noticeably softer and shinier coat than with a normal brush. She now wants to use the dehairing tool every day so that there are fewer white and brown hairs lying around in future.

In a nutshell

Narrowly missing the top mark

The Neakasa P2 Pro doesn't cost much, but it is a comprehensive grooming set for your pet's coat. You can use it to brush, comb and trim your pet - the appliance vacuums up the hair directly. When tested with a smaller dog, this worked perfectly. The comb in particular pulls a lot of hair out of the coat.

If you want to shorten the coat, you definitely need some practice. This requires sensitivity on the part of the pet owner - and a dog or cat that is not afraid of the appliance and can hold it really well.
