Please clean your make-up!

Smudged caps, powdery packaging, sticky threads: the way some people let their make-up products fall into disrepair sends shivers down my spine. A lament.

"Wait, I'll show you what I've got in my toiletry bag," she calls out to me enthusiastically and returns to the table with a beaming smile and her beauty case. I can't hide my joy either - after all, there's nothing more exciting for me than swapping products with other beauty junkies. Quite abruptly, she empties the contents in front of me - regardless of the consequences. I have a bad feeling.

Whoever slaps their powders and jars on the table without flinching doesn't think much of their stuff - or at least doesn't have the same emotional attachment to their make-up products as I do. My heart bleeds. We go through product by product. "Oh, this is great, you have to try it!" she exclaims enthusiastically, holding a powder make-up product under my nose. Unfortunately, I don't recognise much of the actual product. It doesn't just look used - no, it looks really abused. I consider whether I should contact the authorities and apply for custody of the little one. But I immediately discard the idea, as it's hard to keep up my alibi smile with such ulterior motives.

Scene change

At a different time, at the tip of a different toiletry bag, with a different friend: I catch sight of an eyeshadow palette. The pans look like they've been tortured to death with eyeshadow brushes. Right next to it: A foundation whose cap no longer holds because it is full of dried-up pump residue. The crowning glory: the sticky thread of a lip gloss. Again, I feel this stab right in the heart. And so the question inevitably arises in my mind: what do certain people do with their make-up? Where does the disrespect come from, where does the indifference to the neglect of their lipsticks, palettes and powders come from? A shake of the head.

It's just make-up

Of course, make-up items are everyday objects. I also love it when you can see that they're hard at work. It's almost poetry for the eyes when the pan at the bottom of a much-loved powder suddenly reveals itself with the shyness of a deer, when the foundation pump by pump reveals more of the jar it hasfor so long from the adventures of this world or when the lipstick suddenly, after repeated use, fatefully takes on the shape that your lips have breathed into it from kiss to kiss. All I ask for is a little class and appreciation. Is that too much?

So grab a Kleenex from time to time and give the edges, closures or whatever a quick wipe. It's not rocket science and will also keep your toiletry bag clean. Or do what I do and use cleaning as a meditative break in your everyday life. ॐ

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
