Nintendo highlights from Gamescom

It was our very first appointment at Gamescom: on Tuesday lunchtime, we visited the Nintendo stand in the Business Area after having already visited the public stand. We learned a lot of fascinating things!

Super Mario Odyssey

Two months before launch, at the end of October, the game can be tested by the public in Cologne. We too tested it and were absolutely won over. Even though a lot has changed compared to previous versions, thanks to the new possibilities that have appeared with Switch (for example, we're going in search of moons instead of stars), the typical Super Mario feeling comes back to us in just a few minutes, and the little missions are really great fun. We can't wait to see this highlight!

FIFA 18

Sure, FIFA has a bit of a back seat, but as this is the first time a FIFA game has been developed for a Nintendo console - a handheld one at that - it's well worth a look. We tested the game with the controller and are satisfied: the practical application seems to be quite successful. Of course, the graphics aren't up to the level of the Frostbite Engine on next-generation consoles, but they're still decent and very entertaining. We're not only offering the game on its own, but also as a bundle with the console (hopefully soon with better availability).

Splatoon 2 and ARMS

Nintendo hasn't forgotten about the previously released Switch game. Good news for all fans: in Splatoon 2 from Saturday, Manta Maria will be added to the maps available in Territory Warfare and Pro Match modes. Plus, a new weapon is coming: the bubble launcher, available in a set with the liquidator pro.

Friends of ARMS can rejoice over the arrival of a new boxer: street boxer Lola Pop was introduced today and features a special characteristic as a circus performer: she can inflate like a balloon to take a beating. By the way: any Switch owners who'd like to try out ARMS can download the Arms Global Testpunch app from the store and get in some free fights over the coming weekend!

Super Nintendo

There are two new product releases for the SNES. One of them we've already known about for a long time: the mini edition (on display in Cologne next to the old original in a shop window) will be released on 29 September. The other new feature is a Rewind function for this product. It allows you to rewind the games and, for example, redo the difficult stages. An interesting feature! In addition, the New 3DS XL - Super Nintendo Entertainment System Edition handheld console, soon to be available here (but not yet listed), was presented. The retro-looking New 3DS XL console available from 13 October is reminiscent of the original console from the 90s.

Parts available for the sales launch are already out of stock. All subsequent deliveries will be made in order of order and subject to availability.

Pokémon

In recent days, internet rumours claiming that the 3rd generation of Pokémon will soon appear on the (yet-to-be-played) mobile game Pokémon Go have become more insistent. However, unlike Pokémon Gold and Silver, the theme was not discussed at all at the show. These games, which made their first European appearance in 2001, have been recreated for the 3DS platform and will be available from 22 September. On the same date is the launch of Pokémon Tekken DX, the first Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch. The highlight of this autumn, however, remains the launch of the Fan Edition available as an Ultra Dual Edition set.

But that wasn't all: on Wednesday, I'll be completing this article - and if you have any specific questions about Nintendo products, I can still ask them. We'll definitely be visiting the Nintendo stand a second time on Wednesday. We haven't tested all the games on display yet...
