New edition of a classic: FC Basel Monopoly tested

Whether you're from Zurich, Bern or Lucerne, everyone can enjoy the monopoly of the best team in Switzerland! (The game was of course tested by our shop employees in Basel).

When we found out that the enthusiasm for testing FC Basel Monopoly in Zurich wasn't so great, we immediately equipped ourselves with beer and crisps - as befits an evening of football - and got started on a balmy summer evening.

The game

For those of you who don't know how Monopoly works, in a nutshell, it's about building up a building empire to earn as much money as possible and drive the other players to ruin. To do this, famous streets and squares are bought, which can then be built on to collect even higher rents.

Instead of famous squares and streets as in the classic version (Zurich Paradeplatz, Lausanne Place St-Francois or Bern Bundesplatz), the FC Basel edition is all about buying famous former players or major events. For example Alexander Frei, Marco Streller, Helmut Benthaus, promotion, double. They are equipped with stands or a stadium in order to collect the highest possible sum when a team-mate lands on the pitch.

Facts

Playing time: varies, at least 90 minutes

Number of players: 2 - 6

Recommended age: from 8 years

Target group: Perhaps only suitable for FCB fans or those who want to become one ;)

As a die-hard FCB fan, you can discuss great old stories, events, games and goals for all the players you buy. And here and there you can reminisce about how great it was when this or that player was still on the pitch. Instead of electricity and water works, you can buy FCB-typical cards and instead of the various tracks, there are the beautiful and not so beautiful venues of the current league king.

The whole game is peppered with great details about the club that makes the hearts of many west of the Aargau beat faster. The familiar bonus cards, where you receive money or have to pay money or are sometimes allowed to advance to a valuable field, are also themed to FCB - sometimes with more or less imagination.

After another 40 minutes and a similar picture to the one above, we decided on a fair draw after a hard day's work. Despite the great fun, all the other players agreed, not that Monopoly would affect the working atmosphere ;)
