Gregs Tagebuch 20 - Bock auf Party?
German, Dietmar Schmidt, Jeff Kinney., 2025

More of the same - this phrase can be used to summarise the best-selling children's and young adult books of 2025. Once children have taken a liking to a world and its characters, they are not so quick to accept anything else.
Nothing new or unfamiliar! That seems to be the universal motto of parents, grandparents, godparents and godmothers when it comes to giving children books. And I can confirm this from my own experience: When my daughter reads a book, it's one that she already knows or at least from a series that she already knows, much to my dismay. In recent years, «My Lotta Life», «The School of Magical Animals» and «Petronella Applesauce» have been the favourites at home.
In the meantime, we have added «Greg's Diary», «The Three !!!» (but mainly as a radio play) and - to my personal delight - «Asterix». I would really like her to read one of the many other books that are already on our shelves, but there's nothing we can do at the moment.
The fact that she is not alone in her reading behaviour is shown by the annual bestsellers for children's and young adult books in 2025. Here, too, well-known series and multi-part books dominate. And some evergreens that have been popular for years can also be found on the list.
