Iron Flame Flammengeküsst
German, Rebecca Yarros, Michelle Gyo, Michaela Kolodziejcok, Melanie Korte, 2023
A fantasy bestseller gets a sequel after just six months. There's a huge amount of hype. What's going on?
Multiple videos with hundreds of thousands of views on Tiktok: The release of "Iron Flame" caused a real hype on the short video platform in November. A reaction video by Tiktoker @this_is_katelyn on the book's finale even reached 5.8 million views after less than three weeks. So there must be something to this book and my interest is piqued.
"Iron Flame" is the second volume in the five-part "Flame Kissed" series by US author Rebecca Yarros. Unfortunately, I haven't read the books myself (yet): It's supposed to be a very exciting fantasy story for adults, serving up plenty of intrigue, fire dragons and a romance.
The story takes place in the fictional country of Navarre, which is at war. The main character is 20-year-old Violet, who attends the Basgiath War College, a kind of boarding school for training warriors. In the first book, "Fourth Wing", she is assigned to the Dragon Riders, where the likelihood of suffering an early death is very high. And not just at the hands of recalcitrant dragons, the cadets also like to grumble amongst themselves.
The book is now available in German and English. An Italian translation is due to follow in January. The German version is also available with a colour cut. A colour cut is a coloured pattern on the edges of the pages so that the edges form a pattern when the book is folded up.
Volume 1, "Fourth Wing", was first published in May this year and quickly became a bestseller, selling more than two million copies worldwide. For 30 weeks, the novel has been at the top of the "Hardcover Fiction" bestseller list of the "New York Times". We have "Fourth Wing" in English and in German in the shop.
