digitec Playground Vol. 4: Saturday’s the day of cars and footballs

This Saturday, hundreds of «Rocket League» players from all over Switzerland will be competing at this year’s Digitec Playground Vol. 4. The «fun tournament» will kick off at 12:15 p.m., followed by the «pro tournament» at 3:15 p.m.
The qualifiers have been played, the finalists have been determined and the players for the fun tournament have hopefully already warmed up, as the soccer battle will begin this Saturday. No, I'm not referring to the European Football Championship. What I’m talking about is much fairer and more action-packed: at this year’s digitec Playground Vol. 4, we’re playing «Rocket League». With over 270 teams registered, it is the largest «Rocket League» tournament in Switzerland.
Who’s taking part in the fun tournament?
Anyone who wants to - and that's over 180 players. These will be put into a total of 61 randomly selected teams on Saturday, giving everyone an equal chance. Whoever plays in the fun tournament isn’t allowed to participate in the pro tournament, too.
Feel free to sign up until shorty before the tournament begins.
Who’s taking part in the pro tournament?
From more than 270 teams that participated in the two qualifiers, the following four managed to qualify for the finals:
- Slightly Salty
- Team Jacques Ouz
- Edelweiss eSports
- Irie Legacy
What’s going to happen on the day?
The «fun tournament» will kick off at 12:15 p.m., followed by the «pro tournament» at 3:15 p.m.
The fin tournament is played in a «Best of 3» format, so a match is decided after a maximum of three rounds. We’re starting off in group phases of four teams per group. The pro tournament is played in a «Best of 5» format with every team playing every team once. The two teams with the most points will face each other in the final and battle it out in a «Best of 7» match.
Can I watch?
We’ll stream the entire tournament live on our Twitch and YouTube channels. If you’d prefer to watch it in French, follow the Cup on the Twitch channel of RTS. Do know that you’ll miss out on our unique moderator team of Digitec Galaxus icon Simon «Sigge» Balissat and «Rocket League» expert Laurin «Teuuf» Teufen.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
