Console gamer showdown: beanbag vs. sofa

Finally some variety in the living room. Three beanbags compete against my sofa. They are supposed to be ideal for console gamers. After dozens of hours of gaming, I make my judgement. Which beanbag has won me over and will I now throw my sofa in the rubbish bin?

My sofa is already a few years old. Although I still like to sit on it comfortably, dents have already formed in the places where I sit the most. I rarely manage to lie across it and take a quick nap. The test objects are therefore very welcome.

Three beanbags at a glance

Of course, I test the beanbags primarily for their intended use. They were designed for gamers and therefore also have useful features. For example, bags on the bags
.

The seatbags, beanbags and stations from Gamewarez are available in various designs. You can find an overview of all the Gamewarez beanbag products we stock here.

Corner data according to the manufacturer:

  • Surface made of breathable polyester, with "Crimson Hurricane 2.0" model made of artificial leather
  • Inside with PVC coating
  • Side pockets and headset holder
  • Refillable thanks to integrated inner mesh on the zip
  • Liquid-repellent, easy to clean and flame-retardant
  • Filling made from dimensionally stable EPS beads (expanded polystyrene)

The seatbag models "Toxic Storm 2.0" and "Crimson Hurricane 2.0" each measure 95 x 65 x 90 cm (L x W x H). The "RX Red" beanbag measures 117 x 57.5 x 57.5 cm (L x W x H). The "Crimson Station" has a diameter of 50 cm and a height of 30 cm.

On the face of it, I like the bag with the leather look the best. The imitation leather gives it a classy look. However, it is a little less easy to clean. The polyester surface of the other models is a little rougher, but the seatbags can also be used outdoors without any problems.

The "Toxic Storm 2.0" and "Crimson Hurricane 2.0" have a side pocket that can be expanded if necessary thanks to Velcro fasteners.

In addition, both models have a headphone holder with Velcro fastener on the left side. My "Sony MDR-HW700DS" are almost too big for this and hang around two centimetres above the floor.

The wave-shaped beanbag "RX Red" also comes with a headphone holder. In contrast to the seatbags, this is positioned slightly higher. The beanbag has side pockets on both sides. However, these are not expandable and are just big enough for a 0.5 litre water bottle. The accompanying footrest comes without additional pockets.

The neck cushion of the "RX Red" can be adjusted to the desired position using Velcro fasteners.

The "Crimson Station" footrest offers two pockets.

How to sit and lie on the bags

I spent several hours in each of the three models for this review. Most of the time, I was busy playing "Divinity: Original Sin II", watching films or enjoying a power nap.

When you sit down in one of the bags for the first time, you might be a little confused. Just like a large pillow, the bag needs to be moulded into shape before the perfect position is found. But with a little wiggling around, it quickly becomes cosy. And hey; sitting or lying in these things is so cosy that you'll never want to get up again. This is also helped by the fact that the bags filled with EPS beads absorb your body temperature after just a short time. You'll never be too hot or cold in it.

It's also great that your back is really well supported in the seatbags. So you can also game in an upright position. There's nothing to complain about in terms of the comfort of the wave-shaped beanbag and the adjustable neck cushion does its job. However, you always lie slightly in it, which occasionally prompted me to take a spontaneous nap.

In terms of material, both polyester and imitation leather feel good. However, the faux leather is nice and soft and is also recommended for light clothing. The somewhat rough surface of the polyester only bothered me when I sat in the leather bag directly beforehand.

Conclusion: Which bag should I choose and can it hold a candle to the sofa?

The big advantage of the bags is that you can move them around freely. This means you can always sit as close to the TV as you like. If you have visitors, you can rearrange them so that you can watch each other. But be careful; the visitor tends to never want to leave your home in the bags. You'll have to be strong and put your foot down at some point.

I've also found one disadvantage; there's only room for two people in the bags. As I feel like a sparsely watered plant without a daily cosy ration, the sofa is not going in the bin. Apart from this point, the bags are always comfortable and recommendable. In terms of material, I clearly favour the artificial leather. Especially as I don't intend to use the seatbag outside. If I did, I wouldn't have a leather look in the garden.

Even though the wave-shaped beanbag "RX Red" is very comfortable, I'm more inclined to buy a seatbag. My eyes quickly become heavy when I'm lying down, which prevents me from playing games or understanding the film content.

My favourite model.
My favourite model.

Other than that, there's only one thing left to say: These products have completely convinced me and therefore receive a purchase recommendation. If you opt for a seatbag, it is also advisable to buy the "Crimson Station" footrest at the same time. Your legs and feet will thank you for it.
