Bike helmets tested by Kassensturz: eight rated "good"

Kassensturz, in collaboration with K-Tipp and "Velojournal", had eleven frequently sold bicycle helmets tested in the laboratory and in practice. Eight helmets achieved the grade "good". You can also find five of them at Galaxus.
A bicycle helmet can save lives and reduces the risk of a serious head injury by up to 60 per cent in the event of an accident. Nevertheless, according to the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention BfU, only 56 per cent of cyclists wear head protection. Not enough, because: A helmet is definitely better than none. But only a good product provides effective protection. That's why Kassensturz had eleven of the best-selling helmets tested.
How they were tested
The helmets were tested for their protective effect in a specialised TÜV Rheinland laboratory in Germany: How much do the helmets dampen an impact? How much rotational energy do they absorb? And how well do the straps hold? TÜV tested in accordance with the official standards.
In a practical test, employees of "Velojournal" then evaluated the handling of the helmets: How easy is it to adjust the headband? How easy is the buckle to close? How easy is it to adjust the chin strap and Y-point? And do these adjustments hold? All criteria were also tested with gloves and rated with school grades.
The results of the two tests combined were as follows:
Helmets rated "good" at Galaxus
Score 5.1
Score 4.9
A helmet rated "sufficient" at Galaxus
Grade 4.7
