ZEWI has been one of the leading players in the Swiss baby supplies market for over 40 years. In 1962, Karl Zehnder and René Leib founded the company ZEWI AG in Zug with the aim of marketing cellulose nappies from Sweden. Starting with this one product, ZEWI expanded its product range over the following years to include plastic nappies, bibs and baby fashion. In 1970, the company acquired the patent for the famous ZEWI-FIX blanket. The range of cot products was now expanded and ZEWI became the leading manufacturer of baby textiles in Switzerland. In 1987, ZEWI acquired Atelier 49, to which bébé-jou also belonged, and ZEWI bébé-jou was born - today the family business is already run by the 3rd generation.
