Ray-Ban is a brand of sunglasses and corrective glasses and was founded in 1937 as a subsidiary of Bausch & Lomb. Ray-Ban has been part of the Italian Luxottica Group since 1999. The history goes back to the 1920s. At that time, many US Army pilots reported that dazzling the sun caused headaches and nausea. As a result, the Army commissioned Bausch & Lomb to develop flying goggles against these complaints. After some prototypes the popular Ray-Ban Aviator was finally built in 1937.
