The origin of the name The North Face, TNF, is based on the coldest and most unforgiving side of a mountain. In 1966, two enthusiastic mountain hikers decided to open a small mountaineering supply store in San Francisco. Soon after, it became known as The North Face and their own articles were designed. In the 1960s, the brand gained increasing popularity among outdoor athletes. At the same time, it began sponsoring expeditions to the most remote and almost untouched corners of the world.
