Cassare

The word "cassare" comes from the Portuguese. When the first Europeans discovered the African west coast in the 13/14th century and established trading posts, European men married African women. These liaisons were called "cassare." Which means as much as bringing the household together! These relationships enabled the survival of the "white" man in the difficult environment of West Africa. On the other hand, they helped the African women to improve their income and to increase their prestige thanks to trade with Europe. "Cassare", this kind of marriage, was initially welcomed or supported quite naturally by the African heads of families and the European missionaries.

Only later, as the slave trade across the Atlantic increased, these unions were considered unwelcome by the European capitals, or rather the royal houses concerned, for tactical reasons. Fortunately, these dark times are over and today we no longer travel by caravels, but by airplanes. More and more people feel the need to nibble at other cultures. Homesickness or vacation memories, the need for individuality does not end with clothing. Therefore we want to show and offer in our store "Cassare", besides furniture, selected African clothes, fabrics, art, tableware, music and books.
