Russia, 1860. The impoverished student Rodion Raskolnikov cold-bloodedly murders an old pawnbroker and her sister. One was usurious, the other mentally impaired. Raskolnikov believes he has the right to eliminate "life unworthy of life." The old woman's meager savings are more than welcome to him. When he is not caught for the murder, the crime seems perfect. However, Raskolnikov has not accounted for that impulse which makes a person truly human - his own conscience. Overwhelmed by guilt, he falls into a deep delirium, at the end of which there is only one thing: the desire to atone for his crime.
