fyi (I don't know anything about sound nor electricity, so I wasn't personally aware of this):
buy the 32ohm version if you're planning to use them with an iPad, a Sandisk Sansa or something similar - with any headphone having 80ohm or more the max volume will be very low.
I used to have some Sony MDR-V700DJ (24ohm) headphones and have replaced them by these Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32ohm (the Sony was falling apart). In both cases I always used as player a SanDisk Sansa Clip Plus 4GB (5ohm output?).
As a n00b, here is my overall subjective impression:
I liked the MDR-V700 but I always had the impression that it lacked something - powerful but undefined bass, the treble often being covered by the bass.
Now on the DT 770 the sounds seem to be more defined - e.g. the bass instead of being "buohm buohm..." is "bohm-hmh bohm-hmh..." (ok, kind of difficult to explain :oP ) -, and the treble is more balanced with the rest and as well more precise. There wasn't a "wow"-effect after switching, but once you start paying attention to these things then you'll keep noticing.
They're very comfortable to wear (btw. with the 32ohm you'll get "pleather" cushions instead of velour).
The design is not great - anything looking older (e.g. "Grado"-style) or newer would have been welcome - the beyerdynamic's design references perhaps the 80es era, and I personally don't like it very much.
The cushions are very soft => I did not notice any quality degradation when listening while wearing glasses (did happen at the beginning with the MDRs).
I like them - would buy them again.
Here is the most comprehensive review I found for the Beyerdynamic: nwavguy.blogspot.ch/2011/04...…plus
