I love this phone because the build quality is outstanding, the updates are fast and Essential is very transparent and open with the customer base. Since release there have been at least three software updates, each update increasing the performance and usage of the phone tremendously. The screen - and the whole phone for that matter - feels fantastic and more expensive than anything currently available. The ceramic back is beautiful and even after a few weeks of use it is and feels like new. I love the LCD screen and the colors are very vibrant.
There are some drawbacks though, which are to be expected for a very young company and the first attempt at a smartphone. The stock camera is miles behind anything a flagship phone should have in 2017. There have been some improvements since release, but it is still sluggish and the pictures are mediocre as soon as the lighting is not perfect. The OS which is very close to stock android is a double edged sword. It comes with almost no bloatware and is very fast, but maybe it took the simple OS a bit too far and made it too simple. There is no dark mode, no double tap to wake, no shortcut to switch to the last app used, all very small and lightweight features which are missed as soon as one starts to use the phone a bit more. There is some micro stutter while scrolling and in rare cases the phone does not register touches at the edge of the screen.
With all that being said, this is probably the phone I feel in love with the fastest. I had iPhones, Pixel, OnePlus and many other flagship phones, but nothing comes even close to the "premium-feel" of this phone. Amazon offers it for ~500 CHF if you want to save CHF 400.
can you give me some feedback on the battery life? Are the camera better with latest updates?
I'm trying to decide between this phone and the others flagship of 2017. Price is not a problem but I don't want a very big phone...
