Gentle dental care: Electric toothbrushes tried and tested by consumer magazine K-Tipp

K-Tipp lab-tested eight frequently sold electric toothbrushes. Thoroughness is definitely an important indicator when it comes to the brushes. This test focused on the rounding of the bristles and therefore on gentle care; after all, the more bristles are rounded, the less your gums will be damaged. Find out how the toothbrushes available from our range did in the test.

The following aspects were rated:

1. Bristle end rounding (weighted at 65%): To guarantee gentle care, the most important factor is the end rounding of the bristles. Specialists from the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen (Germany) examined the brush heads for K-Tipp and took a closer look at them under a scanning electron microscope.
2. Ease of use (weighted at 20%): How well does the toothbrush clean hard-to-reach places? Is it easy to grip? Does the brush have an easy on/off button? Is the brush head easy to change and is the brush easy to clean? Can the brush easily be removed from its charging station? How stable are the brush and charging station?
3. Runtime and charging time (weighted at 10%): How long does the battery last? How long does the device take to charge?
4. Noise levels and vibrations (weighted at 5%): The laboratory measured the noise levels and vibration intensity of the handle at maximum level. The assessment also included the subjective impression of three experts.

The test result: All models tested were rated “good”

We are happy to announce that none of the eight devices failed the test. The majority of brush heads were rated good or satisfactory. All products passed the endurance test and proved to be waterproof. As there is not a great difference between the results achieved by the toothbrushes, it is advisable to take a closer look at factors including value for money, warranty period and any potential money-back guarantee when choosing a brush.
