The 2 CV was first presented at the car show in 1948, twelve years after the design studies began. This car was initiated by Citroën director Mr. Boulanger, who wanted this surprising vehicle. He himself had already outlined the main concepts in 1936, stating: "Four wheels under an umbrella," and he added: "The new car must be able to cross a field loaded with eggs without breaking a single one."
