Death Drums on the Great River (Edgar Wallace)

When a small diamond smuggler stabs a policeman during a chase in the docks of the African colony of Gondra, British police inspector Harry Sanders (Richard Todd) begins the investigation. The murder took place on the premises of the notorious criminal businessman Jack Pearson (Bill Brewer), who denies any involvement. Sanders' search for the masterminds behind the smuggling leads him to the famous doctor Dr. Schneider (Walter Rilla), whose clinic was built on the site of diamond mines. Along the way, Sanders also meets the beautiful new doctor Dr. Inge Jung (Marianne Koch). In his quest for the murderer, Sanders not only crashes a staged funeral for the same person but also encounters the mysterious journalist Jim Hunter (Jeremy Lloyd) and Schneider's colleague Dr. Franz Weiss (Albert Lieven). When Sanders tracks down the murderer, he is shot right in front of him. This will not be the last death. With this British-German adventure film, producer Harry Alan Towers presented the first film based on a novel by Edgar Wallace, which thrilled audiences in color. The 17th installment of the still-popular Wallace series features beautiful nature shots set against the backdrop of South Africa, along with a well-cast ensemble led by Oscar-nominated Richard Todd in the role of Inspector Sanders, which he reprised in 'Sanders and the Ship of Death.' From Germany, Walter Rilla and Marianne Koch also joined the journey.
