It brings a lot of life ( and dirt) to the balcony. Trade with farmers is very critical, in the "sold" places wild bees have no chance to survive except pollinating. In addition, only a few species are supported, which can displace other endangered species.

I bought two and was initially very happy about it, as I believed the marketing tricks regarding sustainability and bee promotion. But beware! The motivations of the sellers are purely commercial.
The returned cocoons are sold to fruit farmers. Since the bees have a flight radius of only about 300 metres, they cannot get to any other nesting sites and are artificially forced into these places with pesticides. In addition, when the beehome is returned, other species that are undesirable to the sellers are killed.
Please do not make the same mistake and read this page before buying: www.wildbee.ch/vorsicht
If you want to help wild bees, you can easily build artificial nesting aids yourself at a much lower price and thus help!
I have now added more nesting aids to my Beehomes and no longer send the mason bees back.

The idea behind this bee house (with bees) is a wonderful thing,- for everyone involved.
I myself have the first season behind me...
...sent the beehive back and got it cleaned...
... I was able to inform myself online that my bees had multiplied successfully...
and now I am looking forward to the new starting population in 2017...
and not entirely unselfishly... my apple tree, which is right in front of the apiary, had more apples this year than last year thanks to the bees - so much that one branch even broke under the weight of the apple! ;o) - absolutely TOP!! Have fun, let's let the (harmless, good-natured) mason bees loose!
