Asics is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Gel-Kayano with a special edition of this world-famous running shoe for both men and women. Read on to find out more about the special edition and the history of this running shoe.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the Gel-Kayano, Asics has improved the FlyteFoam midsole cushioning, which enhances shock reduction. This shoe offers maximum support and comfort: Thanks to a high-level of breathability and a multi-directional stretch mesh upper, it adapts to your individual foot shape and is sure to remain comfortable after many kilometres of running. New lasts also provide more freedom of movement in the forefoot area. This durable running shoe is particularly suitable for overpronators.
With its 25 years of history, the Gel Kayano from Asics has almost reached the status of a legend. Asics released the first Gel-Kayano trainers in 1993 – a shoe that was suitable for both running and fitness, following the cross training trend of the time.
The first version of the Gel-Kayano from 1993.
In the following years, a revised and upgraded version of the Gel-Kayano was introduced every year – with the exception of 1994. The shoe has come a long way, not only when it comes to technology and functionality, but also in terms of its design.
The Gel-Kayano 5 from 1999 featured the design motif «Anthroponomy», which, according to Immanuel Kant, refers to «practical philosophy».
The 2009 model, the Gel-Kayano 15, featured a remarkably thick sole and details in silver.
Over the past 25 years, white, grey and blue have been the dominant colours of the Gel-Kayano. It was only in 2011 that Asics began to experiment with a wider range of colours – as for example with the 2017 models, which are still available in our shop.
The colour and design of the 2018 model is based on the first shoe from the year 1993.
