Order wine online: Large wine assortment. The most common wines are red wines and white wines as well as rosé wines. The most important grape varieties for wine today are Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, for example, produces dark red wines. It is cultivated in many countries, but originally comes from Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon wines are rather dry, but very fruity. Shiraz wine, or in Europe also called Syrah, are also well known. Shiraz wines originate from the Rhône region in France. Merlot wine is also very popular. Wines from Merlot usually have less acidity, which is why they are less bitter. Merlot is cultivated worldwide and results in full-bodied red wines. Chardonnay is very well known for white wine. Chardonnay white wines are known for their soft and slightly nutty taste. Sauvignon Blanc is also a well-known grape variety among white wines. Sauvignong Blanc is known for its grass and citrus aromas.
Sparkling wine (sparkling wine, cava, champagne, etc.) is produced from wine during secondary fermentation, while low-foaming wines are called sparkling wines (Prosecco frizzante, Secco, etc.). As a rule, carbon dioxide is technically added to the wine.

Italy

Italy is a unitary parliamentary republic in south-central Europe. To the north it borders France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia along the Alps. To the south it consists of the entirety of the Italian Peninsula, Sicily, Sardinia—the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea—and many other smaller islands. The independent states of San Marino and the Vatican City are enclaves within Italy, whilst Campione d'Italia is an Italian exclave in Switzerland. The territory of Italy covers some 301'338 km2 and is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. With 60.6 million inhabitants, it is the fifth most populous country in Europe, and the 23rd most populous in the world.

Appellation

Wine growing area is a legally protected term. It refers to a geographical region in which wine may be cultivated under the specific name of a particular wine-growing region. As a rule, wine-growing regions have grown historically, have developed certain regional traditions and peculiarities of viticulture, vine refinement, wine production or marketing in the course of numerous generations and produce wines of a similar kind. The northern Portuguese wine region Alto Douro was first defined by law in 1756. Since then it has become standard to clearly define wine regions by wine law.

Wine-growing regions regulate and monitor quality and location designations within their borders and award prizes to wines. Due to different topographical, climatic and geological conditions and agricultural traditions, specific grape varieties have also been cultivated and refined in many individual wine-growing regions over the course of time. As a rule, these have also developed their own wine styles.
