We had a simple Italian mocha pot for many years before we switched to a De Longi Nesspresso machine a year ago. But that wasn't environmentally friendly enough for us and it was also far too expensive. We simply value a good aromatic coffee, usually in the form of a cappucino or latte macchiato. So we don't belong to the hardcore Italianata espresso community, but simply want a very good long coffee, with milk or milk foam. And that's exactly what the EC 850.M is made for. We've only had it for a few weeks and we look forward to the coffee every time, usually it's one or even several a day. We are still in the trial phase with different types of coffee, grind, filling quantity, contact pressure and water heat. But regardless of the many parameters, the machine produces a good to very good coffee with a nice crema. The milk foam is consistently of very good quality and gets even better if you use UHT milk. The milk container lid has no catch, which means that you have to be careful when handling it, otherwise it can fall out of your hands. The heating time is short and therefore not a problem. The machine is compact and of high quality. It sits on our kitchen shelf and also looks good. Everything can be operated from the front, i.e. the machine does not have to be moved to refill the water. Unfortunately, the machine only switches to standby (after 15', 75' or 3 hours), but not completely off, hence no A+ energy label. From our point of view, the machine has a very good price/performance ratio. The coffee quality is certainly in the upper segment, even if not everything is 100% optimally coordinated. So you don't need to be a coffee expert to make very good coffee. Therefore, the machine is also suitable for everyday use.

    Pro

    • Coffee quality
    • Price/Performance
    • Different coffee preparation possible
    • Machine responds to individual preferences such as more contact pressure

    Contra

    • Only automatic standby switchover - manual switch-off
    • Polished INOX sheet metal scratches quickly

Very very good. Not an issue for the price.

I have owned this machine for over 2 years. It still works like it did on the first day. The quality of the coffee for the price is still unique. I can only attribute the problems of others to improper use. Cleaning is necessary, but within limits. There are good videos that otherwise show you how to operate a piston machine. If, for example, the piston runs, it is due to dirt and would also have occurred with any other piston machine. It is exactly as SMALL as it appears in the picture (sorry, but that's not big), has super pressure, is sufficiently hot. Only the milk foaming is limited. I now have an Aerochino. But even there, it has to be said, it works.
Like other comparable machines, it is made of a lot of plastic. Even if you really can't see it at first glance. But otherwise, the price is probably impossible.
You can't do much wrong here.
By the way, anyone who orders from an online shop and then expects auntie's shop service and care is simply wrong.

The machine does its job and the coffee tastes good.

In almost daily use for years. Mostly with pads (Cicco'd'Oro or Mastro Lorrenzo). Broke down during the guarantee period and was replaced with a new machine after an attempted repair. Can't understand the feedback regarding Kenwood service, it worked fine. It's rather inconvenient that Galaxus/Digitec doesn't take over warranty processing in the branches. Milk foamer works great - I can't confirm the feedback here either. Price-performance ratio was right and with the cheaper, more environmentally friendly and compostable pods, the machine also makes sense.
Very cost-effective with ground coffee. Very easy and efficient to use with pods. Easy to keep clean, unlike fully automatic machines, which are covered in mould in the inaccessible area after only a short time. More ecological than capsule systems.

    Pro

    • Price / performance ratio over all (incl. coffee costs)
    • Rapid hot water withdrawal possible
    • quite promptly ready for operation

    Contra

    • Fewer and fewer suppliers of coffee pods
