Does the dongle have to be connected directly to a router or can it also be connected via a switch? How far away from the Storm can the dongle be?

Helpful answer

As Gabro3000 has already written, the dongle does not have to be connected to the router.
We use a FritzBox as a repeater to which we have plugged the dongle.
Our Storm is about 30 m away from the dongle.
The dongle is also placed on the wall opposite the garden (the Storm's location).
The transmission of the radio signal is guaranteed. The battery supply causes more problems.
