During regular walks, Oehler, who used to walk with Karrer, tells a third person why Karrer went mad and ended up in Steinhof. For Karrer, walking was both an occasion and an expression of his thought processes. "Walking with Karrer has been an uninterrupted series of thought processes." These thought processes were where Karrer sought to clarify the relationship between thinking and objects, as well as the relationship between movement and stillness.
