Product details
"The nature of illness is as dark as the nature of life." This quote by Novalis serves as a motto for the story written by Thomas Bernhard in 1964. It describes the final phase in the disintegration process of a family, the cause and effect of a gradual decline that is connected to the landscape in both mysterious and certain ways. The tragedy unfolds with the last two survivors, a pair of brothers. Their ambivalent relationship, marked by both affection and aversion, becomes increasingly strained by illness, creating a tension where life and death, spirit and nature, darkness and the acute awareness of pain confront, connect, and reflect one another.
