Product details

In 1950, bath days were still something very special. The zinc tub was brought up from the cellar and carried into the kitchen so that mother, father, and the children could take turns bathing. It was a time when the first black-and-white televisions were taking over living rooms and music was playing from the jukebox. Life was – from today’s perspective – probably much simpler, and people were likely more modest than today, yet they still found great joy in life. In lovingly narrated snapshots, the author reminisces about exciting weddings, delicious Bergische waffles with cherry compote, and how difficult it was back then to write error-free letters with a typewriter. Claudia Herber's short prose allows us to forget the worries and hustle of everyday life, and many readers will feel transported back to their childhood and youth.
