New job descriptions: Patient coach, health coach, case manager: patients are increasingly becoming the voters, the decision-makers, the people in need of information and the consumers. Patient coaching is a service for patients that they can take responsibility for themselves and that is individually tailored to their needs. Patient coaching is the service that enables patients to navigate the healthcare system effectively and efficiently through information, counseling and organizational performance. Coaching includes consideration of the professional and private spheres as well as the involvement of the patient's social environment. Self-awareness and self-responsibility are prerequisites that should be at least partially present in insured persons and patients, but which also require encouragement. Health coaching helps to achieve individual goals.
