Product details
In his satirical novel published in 1895, Jules Verne caricatured the social conditions of his time, particularly in the USA: The rival billionaire families Tankerdon and Coverly are the masters of a fully maneuverable floating steel island, reserved exclusively for wealthy residents. This oval island, measuring 27 square kilometers and equipped with every conceivable luxury, embarks on an extensive cruise through the South Seas with its inhabitants. However, the deeply divided owner families, each controlling the starboard and port sides of the island, cannot agree on a common course. Ultimately, the island enters a dangerous rotation due to conflicting orders. With the illustrations from the original edition.
